My Students
"Why do we need to be better readers?" I ask my students each day. Their faces glow as they think of all the possibilities. "To get a good job!" "To succeed in college!" "To do well in life!" As middle schoolers, they know where they want to go. They just need help getting there.
I teach Language Arts and Social Studies in an inner city high poverty middle school.
My students are special needs kids in a self contained classroom. Academically, my immediate priority is to help them become more efficient decoders and readers so they can close the gap and soar to their goals! My students overcome a host of challenges each and every day and I'm so proud to be their teacher.
My Project
The books I'd like to order has 50 Orton-Gillingham based lessons specifically designed for struggling readers & those with dyslexia. This would really help them advance in their reading. I'm able to also use a technology-based intervention reading program for them, but this book has specific exercises that are both targeted to their needs & that enhances what they're already learning. The worksheet format will enable me to group them according to where they each are, & to help them advance.
As middle schoolers, it is imperative that they close this reading gap. Special needs students develop at different rates from typically developing kids, & this book will help support them a great deal by targeting their learning style with research-proven results.

Reading is a fundamental, critical skill that feeds into just about every other skill and subject. Right now, due to their special needs, my students are reading at a kindergarten or first grade level. It is essential that I help them close the gap. This book would be a priceless gift that would help them become confident & stronger readers, and would certainly help change their lives for the better.
