Phonetics the Montessori Way

My Students

Our school is in a large metropolis with many of the same challenges facing other cities this size. As teachers, we're sensitive to the fact that many of our students struggle to get their basic needs met. All students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch. Each year our school has more students who are homeless. Most of our students come to school carrying the heavy load of some kind of significant trauma.

Our class is a self-contained, special education behavior unit.

We have great kids! We just need a little extra help. Our classroom is a safe environment designed to help us focus and learn.

My Project

The Montessori method values the order of a systematic approach, isolating the principles to be taught and building skills with small, manageable steps.

The Waseca Reading Program covers all of those bases.

This learning tool uses a phonetic progression that takes the traditional pink, blue, green Montessori series paradigm a step farther with nine cabinets based on the Orton Gillingham sequence developed for children with dyslexia. This unique Program Storage is specifically designed to make the materials available for students to use independently. They can see where they are headed with the materials and become very self-motivated. The skills and confidence they gain will translate to real progress in the regular education classroom.
