This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Kindergarten at LVE School in San Diego, CA. We are a Title 1 school with low income students primarily with a Latino population. I have 25 students with 10 boys and 15 girls. Some students have had preschool and some have not. Many students come into Kindergarten not knowing any letters. My job is to get them to recognize and write 26 uppercase and lowercase letters. In addition they need to learn the sounds for each letter.

My Project

My students are primarily English learners. They need strong support in foundational skills like phonemic awareness to build reading skills. Through a combination of verbal instruction and use of these interactive games, the students will get the practice and experience they need. The use of games is ideal because they can work with their peers and learn from each other, which can be very powerful. Everything chosen is useful at various stages of the learning process during kindergarten. My students will benefit greatly from using these materials. They are so excited to learn and this will make a big difference.
