My students need a pull-down screen for our new projector.

My Students
"It's either the wall or a bedsheet. Just ignore the maps. You can see enough!"
That is what I say to my students when we use our projector in class.
My students live in a rural, high poverty area.
I have twenty-six eager 3rd graders who are excited to learn and use the technology we have available. However, we do not have a pull-down screen to use. Instead, our projector shines half onto a brick wall and half on a whiteboard to make the image large enough that everyone can see. Unfortunately, the depth change between the wall and whiteboard make focusing difficult. Also, the edge of the whiteboard runs right through the middle of the projection, and our class maps are on a roller jutting into the projection space. For a while, I used a king-size bedsheet as a screen, but I had to move it whenever I needed to use the whiteboard.
My Project
We would LOVE to have an actual pull-down projector screen. We could pull down the screen and see everything projected from the computer rather than bits and pieces. After we finish with the screen, we could roll it back up easily and use the whiteboard. As an added bonus, I would not have to erase the whiteboard every time we need to use the projector. We could keep our work on the board!
Having a screen for our projector would allow us to use the projector more effectively. I could project examples of the students' work to share with the class. Photos of student writings or an image from a student's netbook could be shared with the entire class- in focus and in its entirety- with an actual projector screen.
Recently, I shared an online activity in which the students had to run a simulation growing a flower by adjusting water, sunlight, and heat. With a projector screen, the students would have had an easier time seeing my demonstration of the activity.
Having a projector screen is the next step in our goal of having a modern classroom- a classroom that prepares students for a media-rich future.
We received our data projector from Donors Choose last spring and would sincerely appreciate a screen to use with the projector. Thank you for considering our project!
