Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is in a low-income and high poverty community. I teach in a self-contained Exceptional Student Education classroom to students with intellectual disabilities in Kindergarten through 5th grade.
While all children are special in their own way, my kiddos are truly AMAZING!
I want to give each of my students every opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
School can be a stressful place for any child. My students can become overwhelmed very easily. I want to create a soothing place where they can relax, read, and decompress.
My Project
My special education students' ages range from 6 to 12 years old. On most days they are a close group. However, there are also times that they need a little break from each other.
I would like to create a tranquil area for my students to calm down, chill out, and just relax with a good book.
My students need comfy bean bag chairs, exciting new books to read, as well as motivational posters, bookmarks and décor. My kiddos comprehend so much more when they are reading stories that are interesting to them. They just love the Pete the Cat series.
