My Students
I have found a children's book character that all my children love. They love, love, love Pete the Cat. He rocks!
My students are five and six year old children at a Title 1 school We have 86% of our students qualifying for the free or reduced lunch program.
Many of my students are living in substandard housing with grandparents or in single parent families with more than one child. Coming from this environment already creates a negative for them but they are ready and willing to learn in the time they are in class.
Our school was graded an F last year. We have a new principal, and lost about 40 teachers and staff members. The people that are now at our school want to work hard to help our children. It is very hard work working at my school but it is very rewarding.
My Project
My book list has as many Pete The Cat books that are available. I got a few books in multiple copies because children like to read books together but have a problem with reading one book together. We will have a Pete The Cat classroom with border for the bulletin boards, a job chart for classroom jobs, and special bookmarks. What excites me most is the Pete The Cat dolls. One is dress in the groovy button shirt and the other is 36 inches big! The children can read to Pete in the library. Pete the Cat is loved by all of my children.
Having the Pete the Cat books, stuffed Pete's, and classroom decorations will be a delightful addition to our classroom library.
My students will be so excited to read new Pete The Cat books and read to him as well. I have found a way to reach my children through their interests and make their reading experience fun!
