My Students
When is the last time that you picked up a periodical or magazine? Today, children need to be exposed to text and literature from many sources, not just books.
The group of students that I am working with this year often have not been exposed to many periodicals, especially the vast selection of periodicals made just for children.
In particular, I am working with a group of children who are struggling with reading and lack the interest in reading due to the difficulty.
My Project
By having a variety of periodicals, I am hoping to spark the love of reading. Once you have children reading for personal enjoyment then they will naturally become better readers. These periodicals will be at the children's disposal for their personal reading time, as well as supplement the language arts, science, and social studies curriculum.
Learning to read for information and enjoyment are the two most important skills that we need to teach our children.
With this love of learning children will be able to navigate their world and find enjoyment in their world. By exposing children to literature and text from a variety of sources will only increase their interest and their love of reading.
