Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very eager learners! Our day is full of active and engaging lessons that help students accomplish their academic goals. As a teacher, I want to help my students achieve success and exceed their potential by getting them excited and involved in their learning. My favorite quote is, "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge."

My students are curious, eager to learn, and love being at school!

My school is a Title I school of 368 students with 157 of them being Hispanic. Many of our students are ESOL(English for Speakers of Other Languages) and work very hard to achieve great academic strides. All of our students really love to be at school because they are engaged in a safe, loving, learning environment. My job truly is so very rewarding and the students make teaching easy because they have a strong desire to learn!

My Project

My students will be able to use these mentor texts to help them understand the genre of persuasive writing. After reading these books, students will be able to create their own ideas for persuasive writing. The books really allow the students to understand and relate to the genre which will help them understand the importance of forming an opinion and their ability to change that opinion. While reading these books, the students will be asked to think, pair, and share in order to create a class noticings chart. These books will be fun for the students to read and it will help them discover what persuasive writing is, how to choose persuasive language, how to support their opinions, and help them write their own persuasive piece!

The donations from this project will not only expand my classroom library but it will offer my students texts that can relate to and help awaken their own creativity and imagination.

After reading these texts, students will be able to understand the importance of persuasive writing and how to form and support their own opinions. In life, this may be one of the most importance areas to develop strength!
