This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are inquisitive and outgoing learners. Throughout the year, they have challenged themselves to grow as readers and digital citizens.
They have worked to develop a collaborative and safe atmosphere in the classroom where we can discuss texts, scholastic ideas, and real-world problems.
Within time, the students became an inseparable community of support where real-life struggles were being shared. This group has shown immense maturity in providing emotional support through their growth in middle school. Not only that, but these students also vocalize when they are struggling with something, educationally or internally. That element of education makes this group remarkable; they work to vocalize and give affirmation of their peers' self-worth and ability.
My Project
One of my favorite things in the past year has been holding a raffle for the students for positive behavior. Each week, they earn raffle tickets by showing exemplary behavior. They receive prizes from a raffle which could be anything from bouncy balls to light-up locker mirrors. This year, I would like to give the students a prize that is of their own creation. Our Cricut Maker allows our students the opportunity to watch their rewards come to life. This project supplies us with the resources to continue making these rewards.
With this project, the students will be able to create and have personalized rewards as recognition for their leadership and positive behavior in the classroom.
This would not only be used for my students but for the other classes in our medical health magnet. The students would be able to draft a design and watch it come to life. Not only does this reinforce positive behavior in the classroom, but the students will take pride in their creation.
A selected student each week would have a chance to design a sticker that could go on their water bottle or create a nameplate for their notebook. It may be a small reward, but, especially now, giving the students that recognition would make an impact on their day.
