Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Ms. Wibbels and I are 9th and 10th grade English teachers looking to integrate a love of reading through culturally representative texts in our classrooms. Together, we've promoted active and continuous reading as part of our daily classroom routines. We believe that ensuring the students have a physical copy of the text helps promote ownership and agency in their learning.
In our classrooms, we have seen how the students feel more motivated and part of the learning process when they have a physical copy of the text that they can interact with.
Our students not only want to feel connected to and represented by diverse texts, but they yearn to disappear into the tangible world that the author has created for the reader. Copies of "The Marrow Thieves" will benefit both of our classrooms for the upcoming school year.
