My students need access to more technology in the classroom. These 5 Chromebooks would allow me to implement a station rotation model in my classroom allowing for more student-centered learning.

My Students
I am lucky to teach both 6th graders, who are new to middle school, and mostly 8th graders in Algebra, who are nearing high school. While this is my first year at our middle school, I already feel welcomed by the warmth my students have shown me.
My students are eager to learn and come to class ready to do so.
They come from a mix of low income and high income, and are diverse in ethnicity. While most students are Caucasian, there is a mix of Alaska native, Native American, and Hispanic students as well.
My Project
In our classroom, we have 1 teacher laptop, 1 teacher desktop and a smartboard. The emphasis is on the teacher, and this does not bring out student creativity and motivation. I frequently loan out the teacher laptop, but with only one device and a handful of student devices there is just not enough technology for students to feel empowered.
With 5 extra chromebooks to add to the mix, students would have the opportunity to personalize their own learning.
By this I mean that students would have the chance to experiment with other ways of learning, rather than having to listen to me all the time. I want students to be at the center of their learning, while also learning valuable technology skills that will help them be productive members of society down the road.
I would like to use the chromebooks to set up a station rotation model. This way I could break students up in to groups. I envision having a computer group, a teacher group, and an independent work group. In the computer group, students would watch videos, create presentations, or find topics that interest them. In the teacher group I could help small groups with labs, give direct instruction, or even a chance to give feedback and hear student feedback. In the independent work group students would have a chance to practice skills they have learned.
