My Students
My students are all dedicated student-athletes pursuing elite competitive status at the national and international level AND a rigorous college-preparatory education - all within a condensed school year.
Their creative task each year is to wring out every bit of personalized and practical learning from their condensed studies while balancing school with athletic training and competition.
My seniors begin their third of four school years under pandemic conditions, having spent the entirety of their 10th-grade year in remote learning of some kind or another. This spring, as these seniors are preparing for their adult lives - college, career, and beyond, they take our required Financial Literacy course for 12th graders. As the disruptions in the higher education landscape continue (admissions, enrollment options, cost of college) along with the pandemic-induced seismic shifts in workplaces, work-life balance, and career pathways continue - the "standard" how-to guidance on planning & managing their personal financial futures is more uncertain than ever.
My Project
After two full years of navigating school under pandemic conditions, my seniors will begin their preparation for life as adults under the veil of significant uncertainty about the impact of COVID-19 on our economy, on their college education, on what careers will look like.
Our required Financial Literacy course carries more meaningful weight in preparing these students for their financial futures and these materials will allow them to build a fully personalized, practical guide that they will take with them and have to reference along their journey into adulthood.
I want them to come away from this incredibly important course - in any year - with a practical and useful reference for their futures as they build them.
