My Students

Our engineering and research class is the foundation of our school and the STEM program. They are hands-on building each and every day. Our philosophy of "Work to Learn; Learn to Lead" is clearly visible. Our core goals of Critical Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration are essential to success.

The students in the Engineering Research classes are freshmen and sophomores working towards admission into the college as a dual enrolled student.

While maintaining good grades is critical to their success, the skills learned in this and other classes are even more essential to preparing them for college and future careers. Our population, as a public charter school with open enrollment, is a wide diversity of student types. Most of them have never had the opportunity for this type of inclusive experiences.

My Project

Robotics will be a fun and creative way to introduce students to some important financial literacy topics. The procurement of funds to purchase the kits and additional add-on materials will be a part of the financial lesson which includes proposing a way to earn money with their creations. Our curriculum always tries to overlap the core standards with real-world applications and innovative projects. In addition, we consistently overlap the curriculum with all of their other subjects. These robotic starter kits with be an integral part of relating their Technology course to the Engineering course. The Programming part teaches some coding skills and the related mathematics. Creating the fund raising effort and producing marketing materials will be tied to their English lessons.

While the students are thinking about robots, they are learning about life.

We consistently try to emphasize how all skills in their individual parts should be combined together in a well-rounded whole. Finding creative ways to get them thinking this way is one of our primary missions. Donations to this project will allow them to experience something that most teenagers in a high poverty area would not get to do. Regardless of their future career, this will change their lives for the better.
