Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs; many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their child's breakfast and lunch.

Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.

Each day we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science, social studies, and incorporate art daily. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.

My Project

As a means to develop story comprehension, our class routinely acts out the stories we read in class. I would love to have some good equipment available to help us record these mini performances and share them with family members that are unable to attend because of work or family obligations. To help with this effort, I am requesting a block rocker, a green screen kit, and a Go Pro bundle.

Acting out stories helps develop skills such as sequencing, making connections to literature, developing comprehension and learning new vocabulary.

Some of the stories we have performed this past year include Are You My Mother?, The Enormous Watermelon, and Making Friends. We will be acting out other stories this fall and throughout the coming school year, starting with Good Night Owl

The block rocker we are requesting will help provide music at a volume that everyone can hear. Because it is portable, it can go from the classroom to the auditorium to the playground in a snap. With the Bluetooth capability, we will be able to connect it to a music player easily. The green screen will enable us to record the children, adding backgrounds and special effects through software and apps. The Go Pro will be a handy way to record the performance.

This equipment will be used to enhance performances. With your help, my students will participate in singing, dancing and acting. Thank you for your help!
