Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My young students love getting their hands on books and flipping through the pages. Due to their age or lack of book experience, they may hold the book upside down or use it as a toy. Since this is their first schooling experience, my preschoolers benefit from explicit teaching on handling books. The books I have selected are both durable and of high interest to target emerging print concepts.
With these books, I could reinforce early print concepts such as recognizing the front/back of a book, tracking print from left to right/ top to bottom, and identifying the difference between illustrations and words.
These early literacy skills are essential to understanding that print has meaning.
Overall, my goal is to support long-term literacy achievement. I have selected books of high interest to keep my young students engaged. It is wonderful when students are excited about books and characters such as "Elmo" will definitely spark an interest. In addition, the books I have chosen are durable, waterproof, and tear-free because they will be used with 40 early readers. Lastly, your support will instill healthy reading habits among my young readers.
