These 1st grades come from low socioeconomic background and
Many come from single-parent households.
They are left with their older sibling or neighbor while their parents work. My school is located in southeast Dallas. Violence, gangs, and drugs, but it surrounds the community around this neighborhood home to these children.
These students are hard-working, focused, and determined not to let their environment around them determine their future. My parents work hard and bring their kids to school everyday to learn. However, many of these students do not know where their next meal is coming from, let alone their school supplies throughout the year.
My Project
The "Fun with Phonics" carpet has been an important piece in my room for years. However, time brings about wear and tear. In a class of 21 students, a carpet can play a pivotal role in daily routines. It has not only been a great source for classroom management but also works wonderfully for safely incorporating music and movement.
When it comes to teaching first grade, the right seating arrangement can make a successful day.
This has 30 squares carpet which is perfect for allowing students to find a comfortable place to sit during lessons, storytime, and so much more.
