This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students at Peres come from diverse social-economic and ethnic backgrounds all living in the inner-city of Richmond, CA. We are a title I school with 100% free and reduced lunch students. Our pre-K to 6th grade programs serve over 500 students, with a mission to develop growth mindsets and efficacy for all of our students.

For our students, living in the "Iron Triange" of Richmond can often mean a life exposed to violence, and limited resources and life experiences.

My Project

Our students love coming to the garden to explore, learn, relax and have fun. This project will enable us to fully outfit and beautify the garden by adding functional seating, tables, chairs, tools and supplies. Daily, students visit the garden during lunch, recess, and with their classes to learn about the environment, science, nature, and where our food comes from.

We currently have no places for classrooms to sit and do work, relax, or discuss topics in the garden.

This project will help us get the necessary materials (chairs, benches, tables, garden supplies) that we need to increase learning and relaxation.
