Help me give my students each a Percy Jackson novel. This novel will help students grow their understanding of Ancient History, specifically Greek Mythology.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work in a elementary school which serves an economically depressed neighborhood. There is a 95% socioeconomically disadvantaged student population. 95% of the population is Hispanic with 76% of them designated as English language learners. My students are amazing and deserve all the love and support that they can get! I am hoping to get a class set of the Percy Jackson novel. The Percy Jackson novels will continue to help our students grow their understanding of Greek Mythology. Our classroom library is a place that our students can go to escape and enhance their understanding of the world around them.
This novel is a great example of making ancient history relevant to everyday life.
This novel has been chosen with my students interests in mind. I have seen the students actively engage with fantasy novels similar to The Lightning Thief. The best way for my students to increase their reading stamina and ability is to choose books that push them to think about the complexity of life.
