My Project

Reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is more than just tackling another novel; it's a gateway to building confidence, curiosity, and a love of reading. The books and materials in this project will give my students access to a shared story filled with humor, action, and meaningful themes like identity, belonging, and courage.

Many of my students are reluctant readers, and Percy’s voice, funny, fast-paced, and relatable, draws them in and keeps them turning the pages.

These tools also support different learning styles, giving every student a way to succeed.

My goals for this project are to help students strengthen reading skills through an engaging, accessible novel, build background knowledge about Greek mythology, develop confidence in discussing characters, themes, and symbolism, and see themselves as readers, thinkers, and heroes in their own right,

What makes my students special is their resilience, creativity, and curiosity.

They come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique stories and perspectives to the classroom. With the right support, they can thrive and this project is a step toward making that happen.
