Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, I can experience first hand the impact of the arts on Kids. We try to give to our students the experience of music education. Currently, we offer general music and band.

Occasionally, our students will have sung in choir at church or have learned to rap through friends and family, but only a few had touched a musical instrument.

Our school is unique, a small school in the heart of the Bronx we serve from 6th to 12 grades .

They are vibrant students eager to learn and to experience the world.

I am hoping to continue encouraging our scholars to be creative in a positive manner and help develop their love of the arts.

My Project

All my students can relate to musical instruments, whether they speak English or any other language. I might have the students use these instruments for a rhythm, as an accompaniment, or as an effect to learn Notation. I like to have an instrument of the day to pique their interest and get excited.

I think music always changes students’ lives for the better and I love having them play instruments they are unfamiliar with and see them experiment with new sounds.

The djembe will make the drum circle more vivid and will make the teaching of rhythms much easier for the 8th graders .

The percurssion set will give us color and diversity and its much easier for the 6th graders to understand sound, dynamics and articulation.

I will used the rhythm methods together with the percussion daily on a class set .

All this Percussion and methods will serve as a hook for the students to start on different instruments later on .
