My Project
Our school's music program has steadily expanded its array of opportunities for students to access high-quality musical instruments. We are seeking assistance in procuring some of the more expensive instruments that can unlock a myriad of possibilities for students of all ages. A temple block set will aid students in their musical movement studies, improvisation, mallet techniques, rhythmic speech, as well as exploring and creating musical soundscapes in the classroom.
Our classroom employs the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music teaching, utilizing speech, movement, singing, creative, and instrumental playing to provide a holistic music education for students.
In simple terms, a set of temple blocks adds depth to our music program. Temple blocks typically consist of five pitches with different-sized blocks, allowing for various music concepts to be reinforced with a visual medium. Students can explore high vs. low pitches, references to pitch in a pentatonic scale, movement corresponding to a certain pitch of the blocks, and different rhythmic meters with groupings of the various blocks (e.g., 5/4 and 7/8). Having another tool to assist students in achieving proficiency in many of their music learning goals, helps them extend their knowledge and skills to greater lengths with more applications for their lives.
