My students need advanced level mallets to play their instruments with all of their musical inspiration.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Dyer's classroom raised $242
This project is fully funded
My Students
Our city is home to some of the world's best musicians, and our percussionists keep that reputation alive. They wake up early for sectionals, and dedicate many hours to perfecting their craft. You can help by donating mallets to create the professional sound they practice for every day!
Students from our school come from an intense urban setting, which includes a lack of funding for our music program and supplies.
They are interested, engaged, and quick to ask questions. They respond with dedication to fairness and respect.
While our music students come from many different backgrounds, they all share the love of playing their instruments together. In the music program, we teach 400 children a day, which creates one of the most vibrant and successful programs that exists in an urban setting. Despite no school budget, our students have been able to "make it work" with the materials that we have available.
Our students study instrumental music, and learn through a progressive three year program. After finishing the program, many graduates go on to study at music high schools and earn music scholarships to universities.
My Project
The percussion section has been playing on instruments that are decades old, with mallets that have handles held together with tape or crusty glue. They deserve better.
This project will provide quality mallets to students. Percussionists will be able to learn proper playing techniques on multiple instruments, building their self esteem and making their concert music more versatile. They will also learn more techniques that will improve their high school auditions, making it more possible for students from all backgrounds to consider scholarships to great universities.
Percussionists are too easily viewed at the "kids goofing off in the back with those drumsticks." You could create a group of dedicated and advanced percussionists simply by providing materials.
These mallets will allow them to learn new music and techniques.
More concert music is available with the proper mallets. More sounds are possible. And these students will gain a sense of accomplishment from truly mastering the art of keeping time with style.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
