In the light of recent tragic events, my students bring about hope for a better future. While they hail from all over the globe, speak a multitude of different languages and come from a wide array of economic situations, they work together in unity. Through playing in a band together they learn the values of teamwork, tolerance, understanding and loyalty. We see our wonderful diversity as an asset and a strength. I can only hope that they can carry this notion of setting aside differences to achieve unity into the future.
My students are energetic, determined and love to share their musical gifts with the school and local community.
They are truly a joy to behold!
My Project
Some people think that percussionists just keep the beat. In the MS 158 Band, our percussionists do so much more. All of our aspiring young percussionists learn to play mallet instruments, such as xylophone and bells, traditional instruments, such as snare drum, bass drum and timpani and a wide range of accessory instruments, including everything from triangle, to cymbals to brake drum!
Since all of percussion students learn the mallet instruments, it is necessary for them to have access to small bell kits for home practice.
The drum sticks would be used for our general music classes, in which World Music Drumming is taught and the hard xylophone mallets are necessary to help our xylophonists be heard through our 100-piece band!
Our percussion section is the lifeblood of the band. They add energy, spirit and many unique colors. Please help them get the equipment they need to be successful!
More than half of students from low‑income households
