I teach twenty-five happy and excited-to-learn third graders, and all day long they have fun growing and thinking, and trying their best. Our school is a wonderful, small multicultural school located in Los Angeles. Approximately 30% of our students school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and everyone receives free breakfast.
Our school specializes in integrating art and technology with our academic subjects.
My students love learning about penguins. They will be creating their first PowerPoint about a specific penguin and need lots of information about penguins.
My Project
During the month of November and December, my students learn all about penguins! We do not have enough copies of the book, Penguin Chick, so I have requested 8 copies. My students will read this book to learn about the life of the Emperor Penguin. They will contrast the information in this text with two other books we have in class.
Having a class set of Penguin Chick is very helpful so that every student in my class can pull information from the text and practice their writing skills comparing and contrasting the information found in different texts.
I have also requested an Osmo Coding Awbie Game. If you saw the Osmo Coding Awbie Game in action, you would know why the third grade students in my classroom love using it. They love Awbie, a character that needs the students' help to walk, hop, and jump to get to new locations. The students have to program Awbie by using special blocks that help Awbie move forward or jump.
We have iPads in our classroom so we are all set to add one more Osmo Coding Awbie Game.
I have also requested some gel pens and erasers. My students need these materials so they can work on their comic book illustrations on penguins!
