This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a classroom teacher for 29 wonderful second grade students. As we all know, the most basic tool for a student is a pencil, especially in elementary school grades. One thing that I noticed this year is that there is always a shortage of pencils in the classroom. I can't even count on my hands the number of boxes of that I've bought for my class this year. Although I send letters to parents to send their children with two sharpened pencils daily, this request is rarely met. I am stuck with a child who needs a pencil and whether it is my responsibility or not, I always wind up providing students with pencils.
It would be helpful if each child this coming year could have one box each in reserve. I know that they will even go through a box, but at least it would be a help. Without a pencil students can't function properly in school.
