My Students

Do you remember being a kid and having so many great ideas and questions but not having even the basics to explore them?

I have a beautiful bunch of very hard working 5th grade English language learners who haven't been able to explore all the great things about being a kid.

Our school is in a high poverty area where most of the children do not see much of life beyond their front doors. Most do not have adequate supplies at home and with all of the terrible budget cuts most items at school are now out of our reach as well.

My Project

We really need a variety of materials that would add so much to our daily lives. We have been working on learning how to write expository research papers but do not have the books to do the research with. We share one old computer in the classroom and the school library was shut down. Well with 28 students you can imagine how this is not working and why we thought that getting some expository books would really help. We use our computer for research but when we find something online that's great, we want to play it for the class but are unable to since our computer lacks external speakers. We also are in great need of a sturdy pencil sharpener as we do not have one and currently all share the small student plastic ones. Lastly we have a large group in my classroom that has special needs. Each one has a very different learning style. For this reason we have requested an iPod to access all the wonderful applications Apple has to offer while putting our learning to a beat!

When I see my class and their hopeful faces everyday it drives me to do more and work my hardest but I need your help to open up the world for them.

It would be amazing to show my students how much people care about them and their success even though they don't know them personally. Our classroom requests would really enhance our learning and make it so much easier for them to gain the skills they will need in their future. We are all hoping you can help, thank you!
