We need pencils and paper! Our first graders are writing with tiny little GOLF PENCILS! We've been stapling scrap paper together to make reading journals. It's a mess! We need pencils and paper to keep our classroom running.
I teach First Grade at a charter school in a very low income district in New York.
My students are super-smart and are amazingly talented writers. They even take notes independently! They'll write with anything, on anything, but they really deserve some real writing materials!
My Project
With some new pencils and fresh paper, students will be able to write without having to worry about finding a pencil with an eraser- or a pencil at all for that matter. They will be able to write poems and stories on nice, clean paper. They will be able to record their thoughts in real journals.
We're not asking for much, just pencils and paper.
These are basics that every student needs to have in order to succeed in First Grade! With these materials, our students will really thrive.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
