This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a very talented group of seventh graders - literacy. The school, is a newer small school in my state and my students are part of the founding class. Over the course of the year they have gone from hating writing to loving it. Even though at times they think the assignments facing them are too difficult, they always rise to the occasion and produce amazing work.
Each of their literacy assignments, gets added to their portfolio of student work. There portfolios are being created as a testament to who they are as a student and they are very proud of the effort they have put forth into making them great. Next year, my students will take their portfolio's on their high school interviews. With great work to support them, we as a school are sure they will do well during this process.
However, great work can often be overlooked if appearances lack. Even though the old saying goes, "don;t judge a book by its cover," the reality is, many high school interviewers judge work and students by appearance.
Therefore, in order to make my students work look presentable, I have decided to bind their published pieces. Until now we have been creative using ribbon or string, but having access to a professional binder would really help move their work to the next level.
Please help ensure my students writing gets read by ensuring great presentation. Even though no one should judge a book by its cover, it is a reality for the kids in my class. I want to make sure their amazing work is read and judge by their talent.
