My Students
I am a teacher in a Substantially Separate Classroom for Grades first-third. My students live in an urban district with high rates of poverty. The students I work with have Special Education issues such as Autism, Developmental Delays, and Chromosomal Abnormalities.
My students have various education, social, behavior and physical needs that require specialized instruction in a small setting.
With a team of professionals along with the parents, we create an individualized education plan.
We work on Math Skills throughout the day. Oftentimes our students require repetition of activities to learn. I have requested five Peg It number pegboards to assist my students with learning to count. To be able to incorporate Fine Motor activities with Math skills is allowing each child to practice two skills at once! The pegs are used for number identification, 1:1 Correspondence, Sequencing, and Fine Motor Exercises.
My Project
During the afternoon we have Math time. We split up into centers to practice and learn new Math Skills. Oftentimes students practice skills on the computer, hands-on, and with independent activities. Using the pegs will allow a child to sit on the floor or a table and use the materials in a variety of ways to practice skills.
Your donation to this project will help my classroom gain the materials we so desperately need.
Due to budget cuts, we have been unable to purchase new materials for the classroom. My students often wear out materials quickly due to behavioral issues. As the teacher I often need to replenish and purchase items for the classroom that are so desperately needed.
