My Students
My school is a Title I school, which means it has been designated as being highest poverty in our district. Our school is a place where collaboration and parent involvement are the key to social and academic growth in our students. We have a safe and nurturing environment to help students blossom. My students are beautifully unique and embrace learning.
As a Title I Literacy Specialist at our school, I help the most at risk 1st graders learn to read and write before falling critically behind.
I tailor instruction to meet the needs of every single child that comes to me, and every project is specifically designed with them in mind.
My Project
Wouldn't you like to be able to exercise at your desk as you work? Well, my students do too! They want to be able to move and pedal while reading and writing, without disturbing other students working close by, so they asked for portable exercise bikes for our classroom.
Imagine a small group of students pedaling silently under the table while engrossed in a book.
My at-risk students need to be able to focus their energy while they receive intensive support in reading and writing so they do not fall critically behind.
Our speakers will allow for wiggle breaks where they can either stretch to the music, listen to a visualization activity, or put the pedal to the metal and move! It will also be used for students to listen to audio books as they pedal along!
This project will help students learn in a way that increases focus and mobility. My students and I agree that a classroom should be a place of movement and active learning. The hour they spend in my classroom receiving interventions, might be the only time in HOURS that they get to release needed energy or anxiety.
These portable pedals will helps students burn energy in a focused way while boosting endorphins! My students know a happy, hard working and healthy student is a successful student!
