My Project
As a teacher of students with special needs, I often serve students who have a need for frequent movement due to ADHD. In the past, I have tried to raise funds on my own to provide my students with a "bicycle desk" in our classroom, but it has always been out of my price range. I realize this project is rather expensive, but I know it would be put to excellent use!
Students with ADHD often struggle with remaining focused during traditional classroom instruction.
The integration of a desk with an attached bicycle allows these students to engage in physical activity while learning, which can significantly enhance their ability to concentrate and retain information. Pedaling helps channel their energy in a positive way, reducing restlessness and promoting a more engaged, productive learning experience. This approach not only supports their academic growth but also encourages healthy movement and mental health.
I plan to place the bicycle/desk in a discreet corner of our classroom where students who feel a need to move can sit and continue with their learning without disrupting instruction or interfering with peers. Plus, movement is just healthy in general! Thank you for your consideration and support of students with special needs.
