This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are English Language Learners with autism. They are enrolled at a school in the Bronx, and they get 12 months instruction. Most of my students do not get much support in a home setting since their parents do not speak English and their economic situations do not allow them to provide healthy meals and help with their homework. Most of them do not have access to the Internet, so they depend on the public library to use the computer to complete some of their assignments.

My Project

This year, I have some early learners who need a lot more support so they can have meaningful learning experience in my class. My students need to use Picture Exchange Communication System (PECs) in order to communicate with their peers, teachers, and therapists. They need to know their learning tasks that need to be done so they need the "first and then PECs chart." They need the feeling chart so they can express their emotions before, during, and after the lesson. They need visual support to follow their daily schedule so they need the routine chart so they can check their schedule independently through out the day at school. They need color, shape sorting toys, puzzles, picture cards, sensory toys since their IEP goals are focused on primary skills such as color sorting, sorting items in category, sequence three events, transition, develop pre-reading and writing skills, etc. These materials will help my early learners enormously and they can be more interactive in more welcoming learning environment. These materials will help them enormously in daily basis.
