Help me give my students the opportunity to learn about recreation leisure opportunities as well as routines and responsibility through creating a habitat, and taking care of a hallway/classroom pet, Peaches the lizard.

My Project

We are students in a special education school looking for fun and exciting ways to work on independent daily living skills within the classroom. We have the opportunity to study lizards and their habitats by having a classroom/hallway pet.

Students in our school have a variety of physical and intellectual needs that require individualized goals, but this lizard will help us to target many different skills.

It will help us to learn about responsibility and care for another living thing which will also help us to learn about habitats and living vs non-living things.

Our hallway has decided to adopt this pet together and take turns taking care of the lizard while studying animal habitats. Some examples of these skills include but are not limited to; recreation leisure, fine motor, counting, and tracking (checklists, and days of the week).
