My Project
During the COVID-19 pandemic, students suffered from a massive lack of social interaction. This led to a decline in sympathy, empathy, and overall confidence in ability to navigate social interactions with peers. With this project and these resources I aim to create a positive, comfortable, and inviting atmosphere along with offering multiple opportunities for my students to engage with each other mathematically and socially in order to grow and learn. For example, with adhesive whiteboard paper we will be able to transform student desks into thinking and collaborating surfaces. With a bluetooth speaker system, students will be encouraged to practice "speaking math" and creating math songs. Even something as simple as floor cord covers will enable students to move around the room safely, which enables them to focus on engaging with peers and/or the teacher for academic success. A primary focus of our math classroom is in actually "doing the math" and encouraging positive discourse will make this goal a reality for all!
