This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students have been working to create a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy nature. We need seeds, a small greenhouse, and necessary tools to expand our "Peace Garden".

Our goal is to add a "Sharing Garden" with fruits, vegetables, and herbs so students can learn to grow food to share with other students, especially the needy ones.

We are in need of everything required for a fruit, vegetable, and herb garden. We could also use more flowers and the necessary tools to grow all of these items. Being a low-income, inner city school, these life skills and building compassion for others are strongly needed.

We want to use the greenhouse to start the seedlings off and then plant them all the while teaching about food nutrition and many life skills. Fertilizer, a garden hose, sprinklers, seeds, and gardening tools are a must for this project, as well as some feeders/houses for birds to be lured away from the seeds we plant. With a few smaller greenhouses, we will be able to start the seedlings off both indoors and outdoors by using soil, fertilizer, watering canisters to grow the fruit, vegetable, and herb seeds take root. Then we will use the garden tools to help plant them in the ground. We also need a few more seeds for the nature garden section. A sprinkler splitter is needed because we only have 2 water spouts that are far apart and need to water more effectively in less time. Currently, I have to water some areas because the garden hoses do not reach everything. Also, labeling materials so students can label the seedlings they are growing. A pH monitor for the soil can be used to run tests, incorporate math skills, plus problem-solving skills to correct imbalances.
