As a school counselor working with K-6 aged students, I have seen many students who are quick to experience anger, anxiety, frustration, sadness, and many more what I like to call "big feelings." One of the most effective ways to help all students self-regulate at school is through the use of peace corners.
The Peace Corner is a special place that students can go to to take care of their "big feelings," and help their brain become ready to think and learn again.
They are also trauma-informed, and truly benefit individual students as well as overall class culture. Most of the materials in the project are for sensory play, such as the stress balls, cloud clay, kinetic sand etc. However, some such as the speaker are for relaxing music, finger puppets for role paying situations that have caused big feelings, and a utility cart to bring this peace corner on-the-go if needed!
