My Project
I'm so excited to meet my class when we start school in a few weeks! My class is a special education bridge class with students in both grades 5 and 6, and all students have disabilities. Each child will be working on their individual academic and/or behavior goals while also getting access to their grade level curriculum.
I need a new carpet and fidget toys to help me teach my students how to regulate their emotions when they feel uncomfortable to help them get back to learning.
My peace corner is an area of the classroom where students know they can go when they feel any uncomfortable emotions. I like to have it well-stocked with a variety of items that look, sound, or feel unique, because each student has their own sensory preferences and unique way of calming themselves. I am eagerly awaiting the return to school so I can begin teaching the RULER social-emotional curriculum for the first time this year. These materials will help me make my social-emotional lessons more practical for my students.
