I have two half day preschool classes of three, four, and five year olds. AM has named their class 'The Pretty Heart Class' and my PM class has named themselves 'The Squarely Cat Class'. Both classes love Pete the Cat. We have pet worms that they take care of and will soon be getting hermit crabs that will also be their responsibility.
My school is in a low-income area and all of my students are on free or reduced breakfast and lunch.
They love coming to school and all have loving and caring families that are extremely involved in the classroom. They are grateful for the positive experience their students are having for their first time in school.
My Project
The peace corner is a great asset to have in a classroom. It allows children to go to a quiet place whether they are feeling sad, mad, angry, frustrated, or if they just feel like being alone. This opportunity supports students in the area of social emotional development. The privacy cube will be sturdy enough for the students to lean against while reading a book. The large floor pillows could be used in the privacy cube or outside the privacy cube to sit on or lay down to read a book or go to sleep (my preschoolers often come to school tired). The fidgets will support the students who get angry or upset and need a place to put that energy and calm down. They can use the squeeze balls to relieve stress.
