P.E. Materials to Strengthen Our Bodies and Minds! (Part 1)
My students need Gymnastics Curve-A-Beams, balls, and jump ropes to support our mandated P.E. requirements of 100 minutes per week!

My Students
I teach a dynamic, ethnically diverse group of kindergarteners! We have just completed the third week of the school year and they have grown so much already! They have begun to invite each other to share books and other learning materials. I have already witnessed a few of them putting an arm around a crying friend, telling them that everything will be ok! I can tell that this is going to be an amazing year with my new kindergarten family!
My Project
My kindergartners come alive whenever I begin an engaging music and/or movement activity! I do what I can with the limited resources I have but without the needed equipment the routines become old quickly and cannot be used to their maximum potential. For example, all of the required P.E. standards that require increasing upper body strength cannot simply be accomplished with a handful of balls and a few tattered jump ropes. That's why we need new ropes and balls.
We do not have any materials that allow the children to develop balance skills or to work with a partner to develop hand-eye coordination skills.
The Gymnastics-Curve-a-Beam would be excellent for the former skill and the Sports Scoop Ball game would be ideal for the latter.
We are a group of five kindergarten teachers who have mapped out the P.E. standards we are required to teach our kids. We simply need the proper materials!
To make matters worse, our classes saw other children at P.E. using brand new ropes, balls, hoops, and other sports equipment. We had to explain to them that the other teachers got them as a gift (through Donor's Choose) and the kids, of course, asked why we couldn't get the same gift. I told them I would do my best to get this "gift" for them and I asked them for a wish list of materials that we could use for our 100 P.E. minutes every week as well as for our 40 minutes of recess per day. Their wish list is attached to this project proposal. Our fingers are crossed that our wish comes true!
