Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like when you finally got P.E. or recess after sitting in class for what seemed like hours? Now imagine that wonderful time without balls, or other P.E. type equipment. We need P.E. equipment for children to exercise and enjoy their breaks.
I teach a class of children with special needs.
I have many children with Autism, Mental retardation, physical disabilities. These children attend a school in a low income area with most children being on free or reduced lunch. These students are working as hard as they can to the best of their ability. Another point about P.E. equipment is that many of these students have fine motor and gross motor issues and P.E. is an essential way to overcome or at least adapt to these issues.
My Project
I ordered many balls. However I also ordered therapy balls, and a ball for children to sit on during class to increase balance and allow children with ADHD to calm themselves and learn to balance. While P.E. is important so is the need to work on fine motor which is what the therapy balls will help with. These items will increase my students joy, but will also intensely increase their academic and sensory education.
Last year I wrote to Donor's Choose about a stereo for the classroom.
I wish you could have seen my student's faces when the box arrived. They were so excited, the impact you make in the lives of students is unbelievable. I want to take this time to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
