This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It sure is challenging to teach PE without PE equipment! I am a classroom teacher responsible for teaching PE, but we have no resources to support the CA PE standards! Students are required to jump, balance, catch, throw, and dribble a ball with feet and hands. Impossible without equipment!

I have an energetic and diverse group of 2nd grade scientists, sociologists, writers, scholars, artists, and athletes.

86% of the students in my class are socioeconomically disadvantaged English language learners, who reflects the population of our school.

My Project

With PE equipment, we can do more than relay races, jogging, stretching and cooperative games. I would actually be able to follow the California Physical Education standards (www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/pestandards.pdf), and give my students the PE program they deserve. Many of my students' parents cannot afford the expensive after school sports team programs or dance classes, therefore, for many of my students, the PE program they receive in school is the only opportunity to develop important physical skills. More important than the 200 required PE minutes every 10 days, research proves that students not only physically benefit from PE, but also academically and socially.

We need soccer balls, basketballs, dodge balls, tumbling mats, jump ropes, and goals, to name a few.

If my dream of having PE equipment comes true, not only will I be a happy teacher, but, most importantly, my students will experience improved physical fitness, motor skill development, cooperation and team building. My students deserve it! Please help!
