Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Math and Science to two fifth-grade classes at a Title I school. One hundred percent of my students receive free lunch and breakfast each day. Our school is an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school.

We focus on organization, goal setting, reflecting on data, and college and growth mindset.

Each student has a binder to keep themselves organized and track their data.

My students are eager to learn and enjoy collaborating with one another. There are many opportunities for them to discuss their work throughout the day.

My Project

My students have been working hard on making good choices throughout their academic day in my classroom. We returned to in-person learning on March 22. I teach Math and Science to fifth graders who have chosen in-person learning. I have 40 students between my two classes. My school district uses the PBIS behavior program to reward students for their good behavior choices. Funding for my project will go toward purchasing small prizes that my students can purchase from my PBIS store each Monday. This has been a great motivator for my students.
