This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine an assembly where all you do is sing happy birthday and maybe watch some students sing a song. Wouldn't it be nice to have those assemblies where you can take a virtual field trip and see the world in the comfort of your own school? That is what we are asking for the opportunity to do.
We have about 475 second and third graders.
They are economically deprived and a large number of them are English language learners. Our students don't have much background knowledge because they never leave their own community. When doing literacy most kids struggle with vocabulary because they don't know what something is. Our students want to learn though! They come to school everyday excited to learn something new. They face many struggles in their lives and school is their sanctuary. They are high spirited and fortunately unaware of the components they are missing not venturing from their communities.
My Project
We are requesting a portable projector to use during our assemblies and our instruction. With no background knowledge, our students have a hard time connecting to what they are learning. We have monthly assemblies and unfortunately they are not exciting. We do not have wifi i the building so we cannot show videos, sideshows or even photos. This projector connects to any smartphones, iPod touch or computer, creating an opportunity to expose our students to the world outside of their community. With the portable projector, we can take virtual field trips and view photos of our students during instruction.
Having the opportunity to venture out of the community, even if it is only virtually, will provide some much needed vivid instruction.
In fact, it is the same instruction other districts are already experiencing. Our students need this type of technology to enhance their education. Not only do we need it, we deserve the opportunity to expand our minds and knowledge. Having the opportunity to show visuals at the drop of a dime, will create an learning that is not only exciting, but effective.
