My Project
Pause & Play: Creative Calm in the Library is a wellness-centered initiative designed to provide high school students with a peaceful and engaging retreat during high-stress testing and finals seasons. Through a variety of low-pressure, hands-on activities—such as coloring books, jewelry-making kits, puzzles, sticker posters, and access to calming art supplies—students will be encouraged to take mindful breaks, recharge, and reconnect with their creativity.
By transforming the library into a haven of calm and creativity, this project supports student mental health, fosters resilience, and encourages healthy stress management in an academic setting.
This grant will also support enhancements to the physical library space to promote a more soothing atmosphere, including soft fluorescent light covers and sensory-friendly materials.
On our annual survey, our students suggested more activities to help them take their minds off of homework and the pressure of school, and also to create a more calm environment. Their ideas included covers for the fluorescent lighting, lamps, and other softer lighting around the space. I'm excited to implement their ideas so this space can be theirs!
