My Project

Goals:

Improve emotional regulation: Teach students to recognize, understand, and manage their emotions to reduce extreme behaviors.

Enhance self-awareness: Help students develop a better understanding of their strengths, challenges, and mental health needs.

Foster positive relationships: Encourage empathy, communication, and healthy relationships with peers and adults.

Develop coping skills: Equip students with effective strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.

Increase academic engagement: Improve focus, motivation, and overall academic performance.

What makes our students special?

Unique challenges: Our students face extreme behaviors and mental health needs that impact their daily lives and academic success.

Resilience: Despite their challenges, our students demonstrate remarkable resilience and a desire to learn and grow.

Diverse backgrounds: Our students come from varied cultural, socioeconomic, and family backgrounds, enriching our learning community.

Potential for growth: With targeted support and SEL strategies, our students can develop essential life skills and reach their full potential.

The chair will be used for flexible seating in our room to make sure students sensory needs are met for them to be able to focus their best. Sensory toys and fidgets are the direct tools our students are using to help them learn the skills needed to regulate themselves. Cabinet locks ensure that when a student becomes escalated and unsafe the things are the drawers are not available to them to be unsafe with, ensuring our whole classrooms safety. Overall all of these tools and items will allow our students to meet their sensory needs, aid in them learning how to self regulate, and ensure their safety during unsafe escalations.
