This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need materials such as color paper, markers, white paper, and glue sticks in order to create historical projects and thinking maps.

Paulo Freire argued, there is no such thing as a neutral educational process.

Unfortunately, the majority of my students have faced this dilemma and by the time they reach seventh grade they are discouraged in the process of learning history. Many of the students think and feel that history is boring. They are Latino students who reside in a urban setting with limited opportunities and resources. They are students who attend a Title One middle school with a population of 2300+ students with limited school supplies. They are motivated to learn, however, the majority of the students do not have the school supplies that enable them to learn to their full potential.

My Project

The materials will allow students to create posters that highlight past historical events and people. By doing these kinds of poster projects, they will be able to explore, create, and analyze the events in history. In order to complete these projects, the materials requested are crucial. I am requesting white paper, color paper, glue sticks, pencils, pens, and books. These items will help my students in the development of creating their poster projects and thinking maps.

Through the study of history and these poster projects, I seek to empower students to be better citizens and to provide them with the skills necessary to play a positive and educated role in society.
