This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a fifth-grade teacher. Many of my students are English Language Learners. I have a high Hispanic population. I also have several students with special needs. I would like to meet the vast needs of my students. I want to see them develop strong reading, writing, and math skills so they can have a good future. It has been proven that children who are reading on grade level at the end of third grade stand a greater chance of success in the future.

My Project

Time for Kids magazine is a great resource. It allows my students to read factual information independently. They will read about historical events and current events. They will have a paper copy of the material and they will also be able to access it electronically. They can work independently or in small groups. They can also share and discuss current events with their family. It is a good way to get the students excited about reading. They will also develop an interest in historical and current events. The materials will be theirs to keep.
