Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first grade students, this year, are passionate and enthusiastic with a natural sense of curiosity. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has hit much of my classroom community hard financially. Many of my students' parents have lost their jobs, and have had to move in with relatives. As a result, guaranteeing engagement in distance learning has been difficult when my families face more immediate concerns.
My Project
Many of these families are struggling to find WiFi, or are unable to sit with their students for hours at a time to work on the school-created curriculum.
These obstacles are currently out of my reach, but I still want to create meaningful learning experiences for my students who do not otherwise have access.
Thus, I've selected book topics I know my students love to read about, and I'm hoping that this will ignite the learner in them. The art kits will be a creative way for my students to express their learning.
