This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Help us out and help save lives! I am a high school science teacher at a high-need, urban school. I teach grades 9-12, all sciences. I am also the ONLY science teacher in the school. The majority of our students are considered "economically disadvantaged".
For ALL of my students, these items will allow for them to take part in their very first dissection. Due to lack of funding for supplies, dissection was cut from the curriculum. Students ask me all the time when we are going to dissect something. When I tell them that we can't, they are very disappointed.
We are requesting dissection kits, dissection specimens (frogs), gloves, trays, pins, and guides. I believe that if the students are able to complete a dissection, they will gain a better understanding of the internal anatomy of living things. Therefore, helping them on their science graduation test.
By helping my students to achieve their goals of passing the science graduation test, you quite possibly could be saving a life. By graduating, students are able to pursue things in life that they otherwise would not have the opportunity to do. This may help a student from homelessness, life on the streets, lives of crime, etc. You will be giving these students a chance at success...something many have never felt.
More than half of students from low‑income households
