This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are currently busy enjoying the lessons and activities in our new SPARK P.E. program, but realize that we still face limitations. Our new goal is to supplement our comprehensive P.E. program with equipment to be able to fully use the lessons and activities.
Our school is located in a largely immigrant, low-income community.
We are a public K-6 school serving roughly 600 students. Nearly 80% of our students are English learners and 100% qualify for free/reduced lunch (low-income indicator). Our classroom reflects the larger community surrounding the school. Although students face challenges in and out of school, they are eager to be the best they can be!
My Project
While our students are enjoying the SPARK P.E. lessons, they are eager to take part in sports and friendly competition as part of the program. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to do so because of equipment logistics.
Without these requested materials, we are still limited by equipment restraints. Our school cannot provide each classroom with a class set of items, so we are looking for help to be able to make this happen. This request for support includes the basics for a Physical Education program, including playground and sports balls, as well as supplemental items like carrying bags.
With these items, we will be able to fully experience SPARK P.E. as we take part in specific sport lessons. Our units of study include basketball, soccer, and football. Lessons within these units include how to dribble the ball, receive the ball, pass the ball, and scoring with the ball (among others). All these lessons require the proper equipment to teach.
Our ultimate goal is to engage students in physical activity to promote lifelong health.
Physical fitness has been tied to physical and emotional health (lower cholesterol levels and higher self-esteem, for example). We now have an award-winning program to use at our hands, but ask for your help in being able to fully implement our P.E. program. Thank you for considering a donation to our class.
